Legacy of an Empire
Light Magic (also called Lightbending, Illusionism or Dwimmercraft) is a form of Magic which enables you to perform magical actions that bend and weave light and darkness into new patterns. With this power, you can create life-like Phantasms of light or plunge an entire room into pitch black shadows.
Permission: To use the light magic Extra , your High Concept must reflect that you can bend and manipulate light magically. You can either include one of the light magic using Archetypes in your High Concept or describe your own unique training in manipulating light.
You can detect even the faintest sources of light and are able to see in any lighting condition except for absolute darkness. The darker a room gets, the less details you are able to make out, but the general shape of your surroundings are almost always clear.
|×2 per full zone|
Illuminate: To light up a small area, take the difference between the current and the intended level of illumination and use your Intellect to do an overcome action against that number. To affect entire zones multiply your target number by 2 for each one.
Darken: To darken a small area, subtract the targeted level of illumination from the current one and use your Intellect to do an overcome action against that number. To affect entire zones multiply your target number by 2 for each one.
Create an Advantage
Blinding: You can use the above overcome actions to blind others with flashes of light or magical darkness to gain advantages.
Create Phantasm: Determine the level of complexity of the Phantasm and use your Intellect to roll against that number. Use free invokes when fooling or distracting others.
Change Phantasm: For every alteration in the Phantasm — making it move or change form — you need to roll again. If the alteration adds complexity to the illusion, your roll needs to be higher, if it reduces complexity, it can be lower.
Focus and Concentration
While a light magic spell is ongoing, if you try to do other things, you take a situational Aspect which can be invoked or compelled against you:
“Focussed on [the light magic spell]”
If you fail at any light magic action, or get interrupted while a spell is ongoing, you are in danger of losing control over your spell. Reduce your Concentration or take Consequences to absorb the amount by which you failed or get taken out.
