Legacy of an Empire
The game rules used for Legacy of an Empire is a modified version of the Fate Core role-playing game system. On this page you find an overview of the modifications used with links to more detailed descriptions.
Fate Core leaves a lot of room for adjusting what makes up a player character. In Legacy of an Empire, a Player Character’s race should be represented by their High Concept, and Characters have Conditions instead of consequence slots to absorb stress.
The Skills used in Legacy of an Empire are a modified version of the default Fate Core Skill List with several adaptions to fit the setting. Several Skills can be used to perform mundane actions as well as cast magic spells. Other Skills, like Drive , Burglary , and Resources, have been removed for being to specific or not required.
Stunts in Legacy of an Empire work just like in Fate Core.
The magic system used in Legacy of an Empire lends heavily from the Fate System Toolbox’s “Channeling” system. There are five distinct fields of magic, called “Forms of Power”. Each form follows slightly different rules.
For carrying items Legacy of an Empire relies on the Bronze Rule of Fate. Items like weapons and armor don’t give your character a simple bonus on your rolls, but have their own aspects and stunts. Weapons normally give you a stunt and armor gives you additional Conditions.
The Bronze Rule provides an easy and powerful tool to creating not only characters and equipment, it also enables you to create towns and cities, and even entire armies.
